Behind the Bench: A Work-in-Progress Look at Forth Oak

Most people only ever see the finished candle but before the label goes on, there’s melted wax cooling in a jug, fragrance oil measured drop by drop and a room that smells like three projects at once. Here’s a quick peek behind the scenes at Forth Oak.

Melting the wax

Every candle starts as soy wax flakes, melted low and slow until it turns to liquid gold. I do it this way for a cleaner burn and better scent throw. Our products get tested for both cold and hot scent throw.

Blending the scent

This is my favourite part- testing fragrance oils until something feels right, not just in the bottle but in a room, over hours. I’m currently working on my own chai latte blend.

The pour

Wax into jar- the point of no return for each batch, so I always double-check scent and colour first.

And the rest

Alongside the candles, I’m usually also blending room sprays and filling diffusers by hand then everything sits to cure for 24-48 hours before it’s ready.

You can find the finished pieces at Forth Oak on Etsy- ForthOakAU.
